WordPress hosting in India: what you need before you install
What to check before you put WordPress on Indian hosting: cPanel, free SSL, storage, mailboxes, and a clear ₹ price.
You’re setting up WordPress for a site aimed at people in India. The install itself is usually a few clicks once you have hosting. What goes wrong is buying a plan without a short checklist, then finding out the panel is unfamiliar, SSL isn’t free, or the ₹ price jumps at renewal.
This guide is for freelancers, small shops, and anyone putting up a first WordPress site. It is not a deep server guide. It is the short list of things that matter before you click install.
What WordPress actually needs from hosting
WordPress is PHP and a database. Almost every shared host can run it. The useful differences are the control panel, SSL, storage, how many sites you can add, and whether the price stays readable in rupees.
You need enough disk for the core files, a theme, a few plugins, and your images. A single brochure site with a small gallery fits in a few gigabytes. A site with many product photos or long blog archives needs more. You also need HTTPS. Chrome marks plain HTTP as not secure, and Google prefers HTTPS. Free SSL on the plan removes that as a separate bill.
You need a control panel you or your web person can learn once. In India, that is usually cPanel. With cPanel you can create the site, install WordPress from the WordPress installer in cPanel, manage email, and point DNS without opening a ticket for every small change.
A checklist before you buy
Work through this once. It keeps the order page from surprising you later.
Price in ₹. Avoid a sticker price in dollars that becomes a different amount every renewal. CheapHostIndia prices in rupees: Starter ₹49/month, Growth ₹69/month, Pro ₹99/month. Yearly is 10× monthly.
cPanel. Familiar for most Indian freelancers and agencies. You can hand the login to someone who already knows the layout.
Free SSL. Required for Chrome trust and for most payment and login flows. Every CheapHostIndia plan includes it.
Clear monthly and yearly numbers. Know both before you pay. If the site will stay up for the year, yearly is usually the better buy. If you are still testing the idea, monthly is fine.
How many sites. Starter is one site. Growth is up to five. Pro is unlimited sites. Match the plan to the number of domains you will actually run, not the number you might run someday.
Storage and mailboxes. Starter is 5 GB SSD and 1 mailbox. Growth is 20 GB and 5 mailboxes. Pro is 50 GB and unlimited mailboxes. A mailbox matters if you want hello@yourdomain.com from the same host.
What you can skip for a first WordPress site
You do not need a VPS for a normal brochure site, portfolio, or small shop site. You do not need “unlimited everything” marketing language. You do not need Indian data centers as a selling point here; CheapHostIndia is hosting for customers in India, priced in ₹, and we do not claim Indian data centers.
You also do not need to decide every plugin on day one. Get HTTPS, WordPress, and a simple theme working first. Add forms, WhatsApp buttons, and analytics after the homepage loads cleanly.
CheapHostIndia plans in short
- Starter — ₹49/mo or ₹490/year — One site, 5 GB SSD, 1 mailbox. Good for one portfolio or one client site.
- Growth — ₹69/mo or ₹690/year — Up to 5 sites, 20 GB SSD, 5 mailboxes. Good when you manage a few client sites on one account.
- Pro — ₹99/mo or ₹990/year — Unlimited sites, 50 GB SSD, unlimited mailboxes. Good when you need more sites or storage.
Every plan includes cPanel and free SSL. Pay on the plan card opens the client area in the same tab. Contact and WhatsApp stay available if you want a quick pointer before you order.
How to get from empty hosting to a live WordPress site
- Pick a plan on Pricing (https://cheaphostindia.com/pricing). Start with Starter if you have one domain.
- Complete the order and open cPanel from the welcome email or client area.
- Point your domain’s nameservers or A record as the order instructions say. DNS can take a little time to settle.
- Open the WordPress installer in cPanel. Create the site on the domain (or a subdomain while you test).
- Log into WordPress, set a strong admin password, install a simple theme, and add your first page.
- Confirm the padlock in the browser. If SSL is pending, wait for DNS, then issue the certificate from cPanel.
If anything in that path is unclear, write via Contact (https://cheaphostindia.com/contact) or WhatsApp and name the domain you want to put up. We’ll point you to the plan that fits that site, not a larger plan you do not need yet.
Common mistakes to avoid
Buying the biggest plan “just in case.” Start where the site fits. You can move up later without rebuilding WordPress from scratch if you stay on the same host.
Ignoring email. If customers will write to you on the domain, check that the plan’s mailbox count covers what you need on day one.
Skipping HTTPS. Install SSL before you share the link widely. It is included; use it.
Choosing a host only on the first-year discount. Read the renewal price in ₹. CheapHostIndia keeps monthly and yearly numbers public on the site.
When you’re ready
Open Pricing, pick Starter, Growth, or Pro, and install WordPress from the WordPress installer in cPanel. If you want a second opinion before you pay, use Contact. Keep it to one site and one clear ₹ number, and the setup stays simple.
